Trashy Tuesday: Billy Joe Winghead

Bands, if you want to learn how to catch a listener’s attention before he or she hears a note of your music, look to Billy Joe Winghead as an example. The rear cover shows a cartoon Hitler dressed as a French maid while the inside of the liner notes shows a Hitler mustache, a mouth, and a tongue with a hit of acid on it. It’s a great example of how to catch a potential listener’s attention.

It didn’t take me long to come up with a comparison for this band. The second song “Dayglo Blacklite” has the same volume, tempo, and growling vocals you’d expect from Nashville Pussy. The biggest difference is that this song adds some 60s organ sounds. The result is an irresistibly trashy song that begs to be blared out of windows.

Then there’s “Lana Don’t Go.” This song is a brief intermission from the trashy sounds on the album. This is kind of a Ramones-style doo-wop song that is easy to sing along with.

If you like particularly trashy songs, then “Girl’s Got a Dick” is the song for you. Obviously, the subject matter of the song lends itself pretty easily to a trashy song. The sound is perfect for the subject matter and the best way I can describe it is this: it’s The Earps meets Motorhead.

This is a great album for your Trashy Tuesday – from the cover art to the raucous sounds. If Trashy Tuesday is your favorite day here at Incognito, you’ll love this album. Oh, and when you get it, make sure you crank the volume to levels that would have made your parents shout at you to “TURN THAT NOISE DOWN!”
